Dushanbe Urban Solar Lighting Renovation Project, Tajikistan

Project Overview

This comprehensive urban night‑lighting upgrade project is located in downtown Dushanbe, capital city of Tajikistan. It covers three landmark urban sites: Dushanbe Central Park, the scenic urban overpass and the main‑road traffic roundabout, as a key municipal night‑renovation project. The total length of renovated walkways and carriageways reaches 1560 meters, with walkway width of 4‑8 meters and road width of 14‑18 meters. A total of 152 sets of all‑in‑one solar street lights are deployed across the whole zone. With a typical Central‑Asian continental climate, Dushanbe sees summer temperatures up to 43℃, large seasonal temperature differences and frequent sand‑dust weather. Adopting off‑grid solar lighting instead of traditional wired street lamps, the project cuts construction, power and maintenance costs greatly. It fulfills dual purposes of safe traffic lighting and urban night‑scene improvement, creating a new energy‑saving night landmark for central Dushanbe.

1. Dushanbe Central Park: Landscape Lighting for Public Leisure Walkways

Dushanbe Central Park is the main public recreation site, featuring dense greenery, flower beds and rest benches with heavy pedestrian flow at night. Before renovation, old sparse lamps delivered dim light below 9lux with many dark zones, bringing safety risks for night‑time visitors. We installed 6‑meter‑high all‑in‑one solar street lights at 20‑meter spacing along primary and secondary walkways. Equipped with 60W, 180lm‑per‑watt LED chips and 6500K pure‑white light, the lamps provide stable 22‑28lux illumination and 12‑16‑hour runtime. After completion, even, soft lighting covers all walk‑through areas, creating a safe, pleasant night‑time environment for citizens’ daily relaxation.

2. Dushanbe Urban Overpass: Traffic‑Oriented Lighting plus Facade Beautification

This landmark overpass serves as a vital transport junction for daily vehicles and pedestrians. Original sodium lamps suffered severe brightness loss, resulting in uneven road lighting and poor night‑time visibility. Solar street lights are evenly installed on both sides of the auxiliary road to secure safe passage. Powered by 25W monocrystalline solar panels and 30Ah high‑temperature resistant LiFePO4 batteries, the lighting system triggers thermal protection above 42℃, keeping midnight brightness attenuation below 8%. The steady all‑night lighting improves traffic safety and upgrades the overpass’s night‑time urban appearance.

3. Downtown Dushanbe Roundabout: High‑Safety Circular Road Lighting

This traffic roundabout is a key downtown hub with heavy‑volume intersecting traffic and central landscaped green belts. Aged grid‑powered lamps previously created uneven brightness and hidden dark spots, raising driving risks. Solar street lights are evenly arranged around the circular carriageway, brightness difference on both sides kept within 5lux. Illuminance inspection is carried out every 5 meters to eliminate flicker and blind areas. The central green zone gets indirect supplementary lighting from surrounding lamps. With 20% power redundancy, the whole system runs steadily for 12‑16 hours overnight. The upgraded roundabout delivers clear, safe lighting for circling traffic and presents an impressive night‑time gateway view of the city.

All fixtures can withstand ambient temperature up to 60℃ with battery cycle life above 2000 times and low‑frequency maintenance. Covering leisure and transport lighting demands, this three‑site lighting project has passed official municipal acceptance and become a solar‑lighting demonstration case in central Dushanbe.
