Road Lighting Project of the Palace of the Nation, Dushanbe, Tajikistan
Project Overview
This lighting renovation project covers municipal roads surrounding the Palace of the Nation (Presidential Palace) in Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan. As a core landmark area of the city, the renovated road stretches for 1.8 km with two‑way traffic lanes and complete pedestrian walkways. The daily peak‑hour traffic volume reaches more than 2200 vehicles. This zone bears heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic and represents the public image of the capital.
After over 12 years of operation, the original outdated lighting facilities suffered severe light decay. The average road illuminance was only 9‑13 lux with uneven lighting, and the annual failure rate stayed around 18%. Dark zones on the road brought potential risks to night‑time road users, while the poor night‑scene effect failed to match the landmark surroundings. A road‑lighting upgrade project was therefore launched.

Local Environmental Conditions
Dushanbe has a continental climate. The maximum summer temperature can hit 43℃, the day‑night temperature gap can reach 28℃, and there are roughly 75 sand‑dust days every year. Outdoor road‑lighting equipment needs reliable performance on high‑temperature resistance, dust‑proofing and anti‑corrosion for long‑term outdoor operation.
Project Objectives
- Raise the average road illuminance to 22‑28 lux with uniformity ≥ 0.7, eliminate dark areas completely and ensure safe passage for pedestrians and vehicles.
- Cut the annual fixture failure rate to below 3%, reduce long‑term maintenance workload and enhance durability of lighting fixtures under hot and dusty local conditions.
- Optimize the night‑time atmosphere around the Palace of the Nation, making lighting effects harmoniously match the landmark building and upgrade the city night‑scape.
Project Outcomes
After completion, the whole 1.8‑km road section enjoys sufficient and even night‑time lighting with stable average illuminance of 24 lux, and road safety has been greatly improved. The new lighting system runs stably and adapts well to the local climate, expected to cut later‑stage maintenance workload by 65%. Elegant night‑lighting effects are perfectly coordinated with the solemn architecture of the Palace of the Nation, delivering a safe and attractive landmark night view for Dushanbe.
