SSolar‑Lighting Renovation Project for Dushanbe International Airport Complex Area, Tajikistan

Project Overview: This key nightscape and safety lighting upgrade project is located at Khujand International Airport in Tajikistan, focusing on three core functional areas including the airport office building, high-end banquet reception hall, and airport passenger hotel. Covering a total road and landscape area of about 9,200 square meters, with a total road length of 1,280 meters and a road width of 8–12 meters, the project uniformly deployed 126 sets of integrated solar street lights, featuring a 6-meter pole height and a standard installation spacing of 20 meters. Affected by the typical Central Asian climate, the local area faces extreme summer temperatures up to 45℃, frequent sand and dust weather and sufficient year-round sunshine, which easily causes insufficient charging, high-temperature shutdown, severe brightness attenuation and short service life for ordinary outdoor lamps. To meet the strict requirements of airport daily operation, official reception and passenger service, we tailor differentiated, high-temperature resistant and long-endurance off-grid solar lighting solutions for different functional scenarios. Without municipal power wiring, the project greatly cuts construction, power and maintenance costs, while significantly improving the night lighting safety, uniformity and landscape grade of the airport area, forming a high-standard energy-saving lighting demonstration project adapted to Central Asian harsh climates.

We implemented targeted lighting renovations for the airport’s office building, banquet hall and hotel to resolve traditional lighting defects including dim illumination, blind spots, high energy consumption and frequent failures.

1. Airport Office Building Area

As the core operational venue of Khujand Airport, the office building has dense vehicle and pedestrian flow, requiring highly stable and uniform lighting. Previously, grid‑powered street lights only delivered 8‑12 lux dim illumination with uneven light distribution. Old circuits were easy to age, causing high power consumption and heavy maintenance work. We upgraded the lighting for peripheral main roads, front passages and green‑belt walkways. All lamp poles are fixed with an 80 cm deep reinforced foundation, and lamp heads are tilted 15° southwards for maximum solar absorption. After renovation, road illuminance is kept steadily between 22‑28 lux with no blind spots. The lamps can run continuously for 12‑16 hours, removing night‑time safety risks and satisfying round‑the‑clock airport operation requirements.

2. Airport Banquet Hall Area

As the core operational venue of Khujand Airport, the office building requires stable and uniform all-round lighting. The original grid-powered lights only provided 8–12lux dim illumination with obvious light gaps and hidden safety risks, accompanied by high power consumption and frequent circuit failures. In this renovation, we fully upgraded the lighting for peripheral main roads, front passages and green belt walkways. All lamp poles adopt 80cm reinforced foundations and a unified 15° southward inclination for optimal solar absorption. After upgrading, the road illuminance is stably maintained at 22–28lux with no blind spots, supporting 12–16 hours of continuous stable lighting and fully meeting the airport’s daily operational safety standards.

The banquet hall undertakes local business negotiations and official receptions, demanding both practical lighting and high-grade nightscape aesthetics. The original lamps featured disordered color temperature and severe brightness attenuation under high temperatures. We upgraded the lighting for courtyards, front squares and guest walkways. Equipped with 180lm/W high-efficiency LED chips and 6500K pure white light, the lamps deliver uniform and elegant lighting. Supported by 25W high-efficiency solar panels and 30Ah high-temperature resistant batteries, the system activates overheating protection at 42℃, keeping midnight brightness attenuation within 8% and perfectly adapting to high-end reception scenarios.

3. Airport Hotel Area

Serving transit passengers, the airport hotel covers building facades, parking lots, entrance walkways and leisure roads with high night-time usage. Previously, the hotel only relied on basic street lights, resulting in dim building facades, insufficient layering, numerous dark areas and serious late-night dimming. To solve these problems, we adopted a combined lighting solution of all-in-one solar street lights and professional outdoor wall washers. Solar street lights ensure functional road lighting for passage safety, while wall washers are installed on the hotel’s main exterior walls and entrance corridors. The wall washers deliver soft and even light, brightening the building facade in a large area, outlining architectural lines and eliminating dim and mottled wall shadows, creating a three-dimensional and high-grade night view. During construction, the brightness difference on both sides of the road is controlled within 5lux, and all dark spots are eliminated through 5-meter interval illuminance testing. With 20% power redundancy, the system provides 12–16 hours of stable lighting all night long. The matching of functional street lighting and decorative wall washing lighting greatly improves traffic safety and enhances the hotel’s night scene grade and passenger accommodation experience.

The whole project adapts to the extreme climate of Central Asia. All equipment withstands temperatures up to 60℃ with a battery cycle life of more than 2000 times and low annual maintenance frequency. It effectively solves the pain points of high power consumption and high failure rate of traditional lighting. The three functional areas achieve standardized and high-quality lighting effects, building an energy-saving and high-standard night lighting benchmark for Khujand Airport and winning full recognition from the client.
