Night-scaping and Plaza Lighting Upgrade Project of Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore, Pakistan
Project Overview
This lighting‑renovation project is located at Minar‑e‑Pakistan landmark compound in Lahore, Pakistan. The construction scope covers the monument main body, 11200 ㎡ surrounding stone plaza, 760‑meter circular pedestrian paths, green belts and internal access roads. As the national symbol of Pakistan, Minar‑e‑Pakistan is a core cultural‑tourism landmark in Lahore, receiving around 2800 visitors per day and frequently hosting night‑time tours and public gatherings.
Before renovation, the average illuminance of plaza walkways was only 8‑12 lux, with multiple dark zones at path corners and green‑belt edges. Without dedicated night illumination, the monument had poor visibility after sunset. The local municipal government launched this upgrade project to improve pedestrian‑path lighting and monument night‑scene quality.
Local Environmental Conditions
Lahore features a subtropical continental climate. Summer maximum temperature can reach 45℃. Dust storms often occur in dry seasons, while short‑term heavy rainfall happens in rainy months. Outdoor lighting fixtures suffer from long‑time high‑temperature exposure, dust accumulation and rain erosion, requiring outstanding heat‑resistant, dust‑proof, waterproof and anti‑ageing performance.

Project Objectives
- Raise the average night‑time illuminance of main walkways to 22‑28 lux, achieve plaza illuminance uniformity ≥ 0.70 and eliminate all dark zones completely;
- Adopt soft and solemn lighting to outline the monument silhouette and greatly improve its night‑time recognizability;
- Keep the annual failure rate of lighting fixtures below 3% and reduce long‑term maintenance workload by more than 60%;
- Build a benchmark night‑lighting demonstration project for memorial landmarks in Lahore.

Project Outcomes
After completion, the 760‑meter‑long pedestrian walkways and 11200 ㎡ stone plaza enjoy even and sufficient night‑time illumination. All previous dark spots have been removed and pedestrian safety is greatly improved. Gentle and solemn lighting clearly shows the monument outline and maintains its dignified historical atmosphere. The new lighting system operates reliably under Lahore’s hot and dusty weather. The project has successfully passed official acceptance and become a benchmark case for urban‑landmark lighting upgrade in Lahore.
