Exterior and Compound Lighting Upgrade Project of Provincial Secretariat, Lahore, Pakistan

Project Overview

This lighting‑upgrade project is located inside the Provincial Secretariat government compound in Lahore, with a total renovation area of around 8500 ㎡. The renovation scope includes the main office‑building facade, front reception plaza, 620‑meter‑long driveways and garden walkways, plus surrounding green landscape zones. As the administrative heart of Punjab Province, this compound receives heavy daily official traffic and its night‑time appearance represents the public image of the provincial government district.

Before renovation, the average illuminance of entrance driveways and garden walkways was only 9‑13 lux. Uneven lighting and multiple dark‑spots appeared at the junction of driveway and plaza. Insufficient facade lighting weakened the dignified night‑time atmosphere of the government building. The local authority launched a comprehensive renovation to upgrade road‑lighting, plaza‑lighting and building night‑scene quality.

Local Environmental Conditions

Lahore has extremely hot summers, frequent dust events in dry seasons and short‑duration heavy rainstorms. Outdoor lighting fixtures are exposed to persistent high temperature, dust deposits and rain erosion, requiring high‑level anti‑corrosion, dust‑proof and heat‑resistant performance.

Project Objectives

  1. Raise average night‑time illuminance of main compound driveways to 22‑28 lux, achieve illuminance uniformity ≥ 0.70 on plazas and walkways and remove all traffic‑related dark‑zones;
  2. Adopt solemn lighting tones matching provincial government architecture and improve building night‑time recognizability;
  3. Restrict the annual failure rate of lighting fixtures below 3% and cut long‑term maintenance workload by 62%;
  4. Build a demonstration benchmark for lighting renovation of provincial‑level government compounds in Lahore.

Project Outcomes

After construction completion, the 620‑meter‑long driveway‑walkway network and 8500 ㎡ compound plaza enjoy well‑distributed, sufficient night‑time illumination, greatly improving night‑traffic safety inside the compound. Dignified soft night lighting outlines the neat and grand silhouette of the government office building, and road‑lighting harmonizes perfectly with building facade lighting. The whole lighting system can steadily withstand the local hot and dusty outdoor climate. This project has passed official inspection and acceptance, and become a key reference benchmark for government‑compound lighting upgrade in Punjab Province.
