Exterior Lighting Renovation Project of Aiwan‑e‑Sadr (Presidential Palace), Islamabad, Pakistan

Project Overview

This night‑scene and compound road‑lighting upgrade project is situated on Constitution Avenue, Islamabad, capital of Pakistan. The renovation targets Aiwan‑e‑Sadr (Presidential Palace) and its surrounding government compound. As the official workplace and residence for Pakistan’s head‑of‑state, Aiwan‑e‑Sadr belongs to the country’s top‑level government zone. The whole complex consists of the main palace‑style building, grand entrance driveway, large front plaza, extensive landscaped gardens and internal circular roads. It hosts presidential daily work, foreign receptions and national‑level ceremonies. Its night‑time appearance represents the national‑level official image of Pakistan.

Before renovation, the compound’s original lighting facilities were ageing. The average illuminance on entrance driveways and garden walkways at night was only 9‑13 lux with uneven light distribution. Multiple dark‑spots existed at garden corners. The building’s original exterior night‑lighting was insufficient and failed to deliver a dignified night‑time impression. The government therefore launched this comprehensive lighting‑upgrade project covering both compound road‑landscape lighting and main‑building night‑scene improvement.

Local Environmental Conditions

Islamabad features a humid subtropical climate with long hot summers, heavy rainfall and high humidity in rainy seasons, plus frequent dust during dry seasons. Long‑term outdoor exposure under high temperature, rain and dust may cause fixture rusting and circuit damp‑damage, so lighting equipment must deliver excellent waterproof, dust‑proof, high‑temperature‑resistant and anti‑corrosion performance.

Project Objectives

  1. Raise the average illuminance of the main entrance driveway inside the compound to 22‑28 lux, achieve illuminance uniformity ≥ 0.70 on plazas and garden walkways, eliminate all dark‑spots completely and guarantee safe night‑time movement inside the presidential compound.
  2. Apply solemn, elegant lighting effects well‑matched with the palace‑style architecture of Aiwan‑e‑Sadr, creating a distinguished and dignified night‑time image for Pakistan’s presidential residence.
  3. Enable lighting fixtures to adapt reliably to Islamabad’s hot‑rainy and dusty outdoor climate, reduce the annual failure rate of lamps to below 3% and cut long‑term compound‑maintenance workload.
  4. Deliver a high‑quality night‑scene demonstration project for Islamabad’s highest‑level government district.

Project Outcomes

After construction completion, the grand entrance driveway, front plaza and garden walkways of Aiwan‑e‑Sadr enjoy sufficient and evenly‑distributed night illumination. All previous dark‑spots have been removed and night‑time safety inside the compound is greatly improved. The new lighting system operates reliably under Islamabad’s hot, rainy and dusty weather, expected to reduce maintenance‑related workload by 62%. Gentle and solemn night‑lighting perfectly highlights the magnificent and elegant character of the presidential‑palace complex. This project has passed official acceptance successfully and become a benchmark demonstration case for high‑end government‑compound lighting upgrade in Islamabad.
